Professor Amartya Sen is Thomas W. Lamont University Professor and Professor of Economics and Philosophy at Harvard University. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences in 1998 and is also a senior fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows, distinguished fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, as well as a Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge. Amongst Sen's many achievements in development and welfare economics, he launched the Human Development Report in collaboration with Mahbub ul Haq in 1990.
