The UN History Project mourns the loss of Kofi Annan, the seventh Secretary General of the United Nations, and the only UN civil servant to have become Secretary General. Kofi Annan was a great Secretary General, in a time of tremendous change, whose UN career started at the WHO in 1962. He was a supporter of the UN History Project from its inception, and had a major role in expanding the UN's role in public information, including in relation to historical records. He will be greatly missed by his friends at the Joint Centre for History and Economics, the United Nations Foundation, and around the world.
