Gender bias in india
The programme on Gender Bias in India: and in China, Indonesia and Bangladesh started in 2014. It is coordinated by Amartya Sen and is funded by the Ford Foundation (India). The focus of the project is gender inequality, which is a pervasive social feature that keeps large numbers of people across the world in a deprived – and sometimes precarious - state. It impoverishes the lives not only of women themselves, but also of men and children who would benefit from more active and equitable participation of women in social and public life. The proposed work, to be done over five years, is to investigate the special nature of gender inequality particularly in India, but also in three other Asian countries: China, Indonesia and Bangladesh.
