Isobel is undertaking an MPhil in Modern British History at Queens’ College, supervised by Paul Warde. She attained her BA in History at the University of York and went on to complete a graduate programme in commercial marketing at Vodafone Group Plc.
At Cambridge, Isobel will explore the concept of ‘environment’ with regards to citizenship and identity in Modern Britain. Existing historiography argues that there has been a profound shift in environmental understandings over the past century. These studies have largely considered ‘expert’ cultures, campaigners, or intellectual thought; Isobel’s work will seek to test these arguments in the wider domain of public understanding. Using the networks of public displays such as those presented in botanical gardens and museums, Isobel will explore the spaces of knowledge where environmental identities were constructed and reflected, within the context of political subjectivity.
