Welcome to the United Nations History Project. The site is concerned with the history of the United Nations and international organizations.
It provides a resource for scholars who wish to research in UN archives or find online materials related to the UN. The website includes comprehensive guides to archival and online sources on the United Nations. In addition, leading scholars on the UN have written about their experiences working in UN archives and discuss further research possibilities.
The website offers a set of teaching materials for UN history. There are resources from courses taught on the global history of the UN at Harvard in 2015 and 2011 as well as a compilation of other syllabi on UN topics. We warmly welcome contributions relating to archives, themes, and syllabi in all UN languages.
Finally, the site provides materials on particular themes related to the history of international organizations, including the role of non-permanent Security Council members in global governance.
The project was first launched in October 2012, and became a research programme of the Joint Center for History and Economics in 2016. It was made possible by the generous support of the United Nations Foundation and was completed in cooperation with the Harvard Asia Center The website now receives support from the United Nations Foundation, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Laureate Research Program in International History at the University of Sydney, and the Joint Center for History and Economics at Harvard University and University of Cambridge.
