Prize Research Students 2011-2012
There are six History and Economics students at the Centre in the current academic year.

Jacob Currie, Trinity College, is working towards an MPhil in Medieval History supervised by Christine Carpenter. His research title is ‘Thomas Walsingham and the Causes of the Peasants’ Revolt in St Albans, 1381’.

Derek L Elliott, Peterhouse, is working towards a PhD in History supervised by Shruti Kapila and Christopher Bayly. His working title is ‘Torture and revenue extraction in Company administered India, c. 1800-1855’.

Devyani Gupta, St John’s College, is starting her PhD in History, working on an administrative and social history of the postal system in North India, c. 1837-1947. She is supervised by Christopher Bayly.

Sebastian Keibek, Wolfson College, is working towards an MPhil in Economic and Social History supervised by Leigh Shaw Taylor. The working title for his research is ‘Two paths to industrialisation; occupational structure, by-employment and proto-industrialisation in Britain and Germany’.

Natasha Pesaran, Trinity College, is working towards an MPhil in Historical Studies supervised by Tim Harper. Her work will shed light on the end of the British mandate in Palestine by considering the transnational dimensions of the Revisionist-Zionist struggle in the period 1945-1948.

Anna Ross, Clare College, is working towards a PhD in German political history supervised by Chris Clark. Her research is centered on the Minister-President of Prussia, Otto von Manteuffel, examining his career as a case study to illuminate a set of broader questions about the impact of the 1848 Revolutions on European politics.

Visiting Research Student
There is one visiting research student in the current academic year in connection with the History and Economics programme.

Jesper Meijling, Division of History of Science and Technology, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, is working towards a PhD in history supervised by Sverker Sörlin. His project deals with the shortcomings of the market concept in economics and in economic historiography, exploring a widened perspective on the matter with the 16th to 18th century porto franco constitutions as a new source of market theory.
