Prof. John Sheail Monks Wood Research Station Telephone: Fax: e-mail: EMGU@wpo.nerc.ac.uk Projects: Professor John Sheail is a Senior Principal Scientific Office in the Natural Environment Research Council, and Deputy Head of the Monks Wood site of its Centre for Ecology and Hydrology. An historical geographer, he is an External Professor of Geography in the University of Loughborough. He has written extensively in the areas of historical ecology, the development of policies for the management and conservation of terrestrial and water resources, and the interface between the environmental sciences and public policy-making in the UK. He is the author of 'Nature conservation in Britain: the formative years' (Stationery Office 1998)
