Dr Rikard Andersson University of Umeå, Telephone: Fax: e-mail: Rikard.Andersson@svek.slu.se Projects: In my thesis finished in 2005 I concluded that culturally modified trees (CMTs) are features that can be dated precisely, and they bear witness to unique events of human activity. They are traces from historical uses of forest resources, and offer information not usually available from other sources. CMTs have a high potential for assessing human activity and possibly human impact on forest ecosystems, specifically those concerning local indigenous uses.
